In order to make sure that our sessions can go ahead safely, we are complying with the rules put in place by The RFU.

  • No scrum, maul, opposed lineout or upright tackle training activities are permitted.
  • A maximum 15 minute total duration of any of the adapted contact activities within a single training session.
  • Restrict team play activities to the approved Touch and Ready4Rugby formats, with a maximum of 20 players per half pitch.
  • Players placed in groups of a maximum of 6 for adapted contact and non-contact skill development activities. Groups should be selected appropriately based on a player’s age, size and competence.
  • During a session (contact activities and Touch/Ready4Rugby activities combined) players should avoid face to face exposure of more than 3 seconds and more than 15 minutes of exposure at less than 1 metre with another player.
  • Coaches and players should remain social distanced during breaks.
  • Coaches should remain socially distanced when giving players instruction, observing and giving feedback.
  • Ensure all players clean and sanitise after the contact skills training.
  • Team huddles should be avoided. Spitting and chewing gum should also be avoided.
  • Ensure there is appropriate first aid cover for a contact session.
  • Any equipment such as tackle pads, shields, bags should be cleaned and sanitised after each individual player use.
  • All other equipment including rugby balls must be cleaned and sanitised after a maximum of 15 minutes activity.
  • The holding of tackle shields, pads or bags must not be carried out by a coach or adult for any age grade player. Watch the Holding a Tackle Pad Safely video for more information.
  • Sharing of equipment should be avoided at all times.
  • Players should refrain from touching or removing their mouth guard, and if they do so must wash their hands. Mouth guards must not be left on shared surfaces and should be placed in a personal container and stored with personal possessions.
  • Any protective clothing such as head guards and shoulder pads must comply with World Rugby guidance. Head guards and shoulder pads must not be shared during sessions.

Club information

An exciting, friendly and very sociable club that welcomes all new players, no matter what your level of playing experience may be. NEW FOR 2020/21 - This year sees the introduction of a women's team and they will run alongside our established men's side.

Venue

For Monday sessions, we are based at Bedford Swifts RFC (Bedford International Stadium's), located 5 minutes from Bedford campus at MK41 9SB. There are frequent trains from Luton, and a free University bus from the Bedford train station that stops at the campus with the venue just a few minutes walk down the road.

On Wednesdays, we train on our pitch at Bedford campus, as well as hosting our home BUCS fixtures throughout the year here.

Regular Training times

There will be free travel for all competitive sports members from the Luton Campus. Come find us a Freshers for more information.

We play in the BUCS league Midlands 4B and strive to play fast hard-hitting rugby, whilst also being able to give everyone opportunities to play throughout the year. If you would like to know more please feel free to follow our Twitter or Instagram accounts or come along to a training session.


An exciting opportunity to join a newly formed, friendly and very sociable club that welcomes all players, no matter what your level of playing experience may be. We aim to have a successful first 20/21 season both on and off the pitch with players joining us from all different types of sporting backgrounds as well as those who are totally new to team sports.

  1. Download the BUCS Play app form the app store
  2. Create at BUCS Play account using your STUDENT EMAIL ADDRESS and then search for Bedfordshire Rugby
