Extra costs

Course-specific costs

Each degree may have different additional costs, which can be found on the programme pages. You may be required to pay these costs in order to fully participate in and complete your degree.

Typically, tuition fees do not cover the costs of purchasing books or stationery, printing, thesis binding or photocopying costs. Most students also benefit from having their own laptop or tablet - the cost of which will vary according to your personal preference.

You may also be expected to pay parking costs when travelling to a campus.

Placements

Before applying for a course with a placement, take time to consider the costs involved. You will typically be responsible for your own travel, accommodation and living costs unless otherwise stated.

Library and IT services

It is free to use the library with your student ID card. However, fines are in place to ensure books and materials remain accessible to all students. Check your email for reminders to help you avoid fines and remember you are responsible for all items on your account. See the Library Code of Conduct

To use the University printers, copiers and scanners, there is a small fee so you are required to buy print credits. See print costs for further details.

Graduation ceremony

You are invited to attend a ceremony to celebrate your graduation. In order to attend, all guests are required to hold a ticket. Payment of the graduation fee entitles you to bring up to two guests to the ceremony. Extra tickets are also available on a first-come, first-served basis. An academic gown must be hired if you want to attend your graduation ceremony. See graduation for more details.

Lost student ID card

If you lose your student ID a replacement costs £10.00 and £11.00 with lanyard.

Dissertation/thesis binding

On many courses, you will be required to have your dissertation printed and bound. The University's Print Shop offer a binding service. See the Print Shop pages for a current price list.
