The University of Bedfordshire’s Creative Arts, Technologies & Science (CATS) faculty has recorded its highest ever overall satisfaction score in the 2015 National Student Survey (NSS).

By hitting a record 85% satisfaction rate, CATS has seen a jump of 6% on last year’s result, while three of its courses saw 100% of its students satisfied.

Broadcast Journalism, English Studies and Fashion Design all earned the maximum seal of approval, with the latter claiming 100% satisfaction in almost all questions on the survey.

In addition, eight further degrees – Biological Science, Biomedical Science, Creative Writing, Dance and Professional Practice, Forensic Science, Media Performance, Performing Arts, and Television Production – were granted 90% or upwards in overall satisfaction.

The faculty also saw its best ever results for its Teaching, Personal Development, Organisation and Management, Assessment and Feedback, and Academic Support, meaning six out of the seven categories surveyed had hit an all-time high. The Organisation and Management, and Assessment and Feedback ratings were both above the sector average, by 2% and 5% respectively.

The performance means Bedfordshire is now a top-ten university in the country for Communication and Information Studies subjects, top-15 in Biology and Related Science subjects, and top-20 for English. It’s also in the top 30 for Electrical and Electronic Engineering, Creative Arts and Performing Arts.

Recently appointed permanent Executive Dean of CATS, Jan Domin, said he was delighted with the results:

“This best-ever year for CATS in the National Student Survey shows that the student experience is our top priority.

“To have this recognised so emphatically is particularly pleasing and a testament to the way our staff and students work together in partnership.”

The NSS asks final-year undergraduates to provide honest feedback on what it has been like to study at their institution.

83.1% of Bedfordshire’s 2015 graduates gave the University their seal of approval, representing the University’s second highest NSS score since the survey began ten years ago. Bedfordshire remains one of the top-ten universities in the country for improving the student experience.

In total, eight courses at the University of Bedfordshire received an overall satisfaction rating of 100% and a further 28 received a score of 90% or above. The survey also showed that Bedfordshire continues to be one of the leading universities in the country for improving the career prospects and choices of its students and for aiding students’ personal development, with ratings of 82% and 84% respectively.
