Co- and extra-curriculum offerings

The University now offers two optional units to all students who want to develop their knowledge, understandings and skills in sustainability. In the face of the challenges of changing and uncertain futures, this unit aims to prepare students for future careers and work scenarios.

These optional units gain students 5-credits. Although these do not contribute to those for their respective courses but will be included on their final transcripts.

  • Action for Sustainability - DOCX 49.5 KB , has been offered since January 2016. This develops understandings of the scope and impacts of global climatic and environmental trends and the implications for our communities, economies and countries. Gaining awareness of the impacts and the potential of individual and collective actions is key to this.
  • ‘World Negotiations’ will be offered from February 2018. This involves students in simulated learning exercises approximating a Model UN activity, involving role play and use of interactive software to identify the impacts of the agreements they reach. They will learn the importance of international collaboration to overcome shared global challenged.

Pictured below are students on a field trip to the local waste management facility, Cawleys Recycling Management Centre, in Luton. Students gain first-hand knowledge about where the waste from the University goes, and how it is managed.
