Reflective practice groups (RPGs) for leaders

Self-reflection is integral to developing effective multi-disciplinary working and fostering improvement in practice and services. To support strategic and operational leaders involved in the delivery of integrated care reflect, learn and continually improve, you are invited to part in a reflective practice group (RPG) programme. The programme will last for six months. RPGs will be facilitated by Dr Lisa Bostock and Dr Louise Grant from the University of Bedfordshire. This work is part of a collaboration between the Bedfordshire, Luton and Milton Keynes (BLMK) health and care partnership and the University of Bedfordshire, called the BLMK integrated research and innovation hub.

What are reflective practice groups?

RPGs are a group-based model of reflection. They provide participants with the opportunity to reflect together on key practice dilemmas, offering a confidential and containing space to address the challenges of multi-agency working. RPGs are a structured forum and will last for 1h each month. We will run the groups for six months starting from January 2024 and during that time, identify facilitators to take over from Lisa and Louise. We will continue to support the facilitators to ensure the groups success.

How can they help?

RPGs can help collaborative self-reflection by slowing down thinking within a structured, safe space. They are designed to encourage curiosity, manage complexity and uncertainty and surface the emotional impact of working together to safeguard and promote the health and welfare of people using services.

Evaluation

We will ask you to take part in an evaluation to ensure that the RPGs are meeting the needs of participants. This is entirely voluntary and you can still take part in the RPGs if you don’t want to participate in the evaluation.
