University promotes climate education with regional schools
Fri 07 June, 2024The University’s Academy for Learning and Teaching Excellence and Sustainability Forum led a climate simulation event with eight secondary schools and 150 students, with ten teachers at the Scholars’ Education Trust.
The day conference on climate change was held at Rothamsted Conference Centre. Dr Diana Pritchard and Dr Sibel Kaya facilitated an interactive climate change session, setting students the challenge of keeping the global temperature increase to between 1.5 – 2.0c. Using the MIT developed software, En-Roads, made for a highly engaging pedagogical tool to engage students in developing knowledge about the most effective measures and policies to reduce the increase in greenhouse gases.
Responding to the session, and thanking these University academics, the CEO Dr Claire Robins OBE commended the activities and approach, noting the high level of student engagement in the exercise and the buzz that it created amongst the students and teachers.
