The latest in the ongoing series of University-wide multidisciplinary UNSDG events, that engage academic staff and students in developing knowledge understandings, practices and solutions to key sustainability challenges was held on Wednesday 8  May 2024.

This University-wide UN SDG event focussed on the climate emergency and social and racial justice and injustice. As usual, it was organised by the University’s institutional lead, Dr Diana Pritchard with support from the Academy for Learning and Teaching Excellence and the Sustainability Forum.

It was launched by the PVC-Research and Innovation, Prof Andrew Church and attended by 53 members of staff.

This in-person event included a series of interactive activities, namely the digital performance, ‘Can I Live’ by Complicité Films with Fehinti Balogun; workshop and panel discussions to explore personal responses to the climate emergency; in-person contributions from Jeremy Williams, author of ‘Climate Change is Racist’ and workshops to identify curriculum, assessment and dissertation ideas.

It also drew on the contributions of experts from within and beyond our University community, to support academics in identifying the relevance of these themes to their discipline and course. As such it aimed to support the embedding of the SDGs, as part of both the curriculum change programme and employability agendas.
