What is a course transfer?

A course transfer is when you request permission to transfer from your current course to another course at the university. Please go to the course transfer page for more information about our course transfer process.

If you have accepted an offer for a course at the university but have not yet registered, you can discuss your options for transferring to a different course with our admissions team

You must apply and complete a course transfer before you re-register on the anniversary of your first registering on your course. The process must be completed before registration closes so that you are registered on the correct units for your new course. Follow our step by step instructions to help guide you through the process. When you are ready to apply, complete the Course transfer application form


You will receive an email confirmation from us with details of your new course start date. You can find out more about when you will normally be eligible to start your new course in our course transfer policy [DOCX]


You must meet the entry and any PSRB requirements for the course you wish to transfer on to, and may have to take additional units as part of the transfer agreement.

You must have approval from the Course Leaders on your current and your new course to enable you to transfer. You should read the information, including our Course Transfer policy, available on our course transfer page


If you are transferring to a different course it could affect your tuition fees and your eligibility for funding. You should seek advice from our Student Money Advice team so you understand the implications for your fees and funding.

It is possible that your funding will be affected if you change course. For instance, where the course you are transferring to is longer than the one you are currently on. You should check how many years funding you can still apply for to see if it matches the number of years left on your course. If the new course is longer, you may have to self-fund elements of the course.


You cannot transfer to a new course to avoid academic failure. You may have to complete any outstanding assessments before the course transfer is permitted. You should seek advice from your Course leader before applying for a transfer.


Our course transfer policy [DOCX] only permits one course transfer and it is not possible to transfer back on to your current course once you have transferred to the new course. By transferring course you agree to waive the right to the statutory cooling off period. Please read our course transfer policy [DOCX] for details.


If you are on a student visa you must seek advice from the International Office before you apply for a Course Transfer. It is important that you understand the impact it could have on your visa status.
