Student Experience Awards 2015
Congratulations to the winners of the Vice Chancellor's Student Experience Awards 2015
The awards were presented and celebrated at the black tie event held on June 5th 2015 at Putteridge Bury. The event represented a real celebration of the Student Experience recognition of all the great work undertaken in various forms at the University of Bedfordshire.
A total of 684 proposals were received for the 2015 awards with 17 award categories available. In addition to the winners selected, there were also a number of "highly commended" nominees recognised for their "above and beyond" commitment to the student experience.
The winner of the overall "Vice Chancellor's Outstanding Student Experience Award" was Tass Hussain. Tass, the PG/CPD Centre Administrator/Receptionist, received a high number of nominations from a mixture of staff and students, which included regular positive feedback via "Tell Us".
The winner of the "Student of the Year" award was Charlotte Mortimer. Charlotte is a rep across a department that is spread all over University sites and has demonstrated high levels of student engagement and professionalism. Charlotte is hugely respected by her peers and is a great model for Adult Nursing.
In addition, an additional award was also presented at the awards ceremony: the Lord Lieutenant's Community Engagement Award. This new award recognised, promotes and celebrates the work of individual students or groups of students of the University, who have made a tangible and outstanding contribution to communities within Bedfordshire and have advanced the mission and values of the University. A £200 prize was awarded to the student or group of students in receipt of this award.
The winner of this particular prize was the Refugee Legal Aid Project (RLAP). RLAP is a pro bono clinical legal education project set up by the Law School in 2013 to provide support to refugees in the preparation of applications for family reunion. During the current academic year, RLAP students have assisted twenty-five refugees, and have completed applications for over 40 individual family members, the vast majority of them children.
Peer Assisted Leaders (PAL) award winners were also recognised and presented with a trophy at the awards ceremony.
