Topic: Post-Jungian Gamers

Between Screen and Screen: Post-Jungian Insights into Gamers and Gaming

This research builds on the contribution made by post-Jungian analysis to our understanding of film, television and the internet.

Key to this contribution has been the concepts of the unconscious, the image and the embodied condition provided by the post-Jungian theoretical framework.

This research project will extend the post-Jungian approach to media by applying these concepts to our experiences of being an embodied gamer.

It will seek to provide an account of the images produced by the gamer when in the act of playing video games.

It will also seek to provide an account of the embodied condition in game-playing.

This research project will build on the established research base in Post-Jungian Film Studies and New Media situated within RIMAP.

The methodologies to be used in this research will draw on the traditions of Jungian film studies and the emerging methodologies for studying gamers being developed by the new media research group.

The expected outcome is a post-Jungian account of the image and the embodied gamer.
