Publishing and the book
Professor Alexis Weedon is chair of The UNESCO Chair on New Media Forms of the Book, established at the University of Bedfordshire.
Her current projects investigate specific issues in the ongoing redefining of ‘the book’.
Sophisticated systems of conveying meaning in other media challenge the book’s social function as the high status vehicle for communicating new ideas and cultural expressions from literature to scientific knowledge.
These are being investigated through projects ranging from investigating e-book, AR-books and scholarly publishing.
Professor Weedon and Professor W.R. Owens are engaged in research on the history of publishing and the book.
Professor Owens has edited The Gospels and is the co-editor of the Works of Daniel Defoe. Professor Weedon has recently published Elinor Glyn as Novelist, Moviemaker, Glamour Icon and Businesswoman with Dr Vincent L Barnett.
