This is our largest research area. A large team of 39 researchers submitted their research, working on a range of areas, and 90% of their work is at internationally recognised level.
The University of Bedfordshire's Computing research teams develop innovative computer technology and electronics that help to solve real-world problems and ensure computer technology is used efficiently and effectively.
Our research is applied across societal and technical challenges of the present and the future.
Centre of excellence
The Institute for Research in Applicable Computing (IRAC) is internationally recognised and respected as a centre of excellence and significance in applicable computing and related areas of electronics.
We receive funding from many sources - UK Government and Research Councils as well as the Royal Academy of Engineering, the European Commission and charitable bodies such as Comic Relief and the Nuffield Foundation.
Research impact
Our essential research into novel technology and related applications and electronics has social, cultural and economic impact both locally and internationally.
We use our expertise to improve the health, energy, security and assisted living sectors and directly benefit communities as well as governments, businesses of all levels and international populations.

Specialist facilities
Our recently refurbished research labs contain workstations for over 100 researchers as well as specialised software such as graphics tools and computing libraries.
Students at the University benefit from work experience with international companies such as T-Mobile and Axis Electronics through which they gain valuable experience of applied research in the workplace.
