Patient safety and human factors theory in University of Bedfordshire provision

Patient Safety at the University of Bedfordshire

Staff at the University of Bedfordshire have worked hard to ensure that patient safety and human factors theory are an integral part of the healthcare curriculum. All our pre-registration healthcare programmes, which includes nursing, midwifery, peri-operative and paramedical practice, incorporate aspects of patient safety theory, policy and practice.

A summary of the emphasis being given to this provision can be found in a leaflet which is given to all new pre-registration healthcare programme students. Service improvement methods, as utilised in approaches such a Lean, Six Sigma and the various NHS Productive Ward initiatives, are also an integral part of the pre-registration nursing programme and projects undertaken as part of the healthcare field degree programme offered within the Faculty of Health and Social Sciences.
