Getting hands-on experience in the industry
I got to step into the fast-paced world of the music industry, as I got to see how band managers promote their clients and see how music events are advertised.
One of the most exciting aspects was working closely with music managers to develop promotional content for the event. Liaising with the managers to make sure what I created was exactly what they had in mind, it was an eye-opening experience of how in-depth planning goes into just one gig.
For me, the most exciting part of the opportunity was being able to get experience in doing something that I am most passionate about, I had the chance to step into the world of music journalism—something I have always loved.
The University of Bedfordshire gave me career-standard equipment to be able to capture any content I may need for the event, which allowed me to create great footage when I was chatting with the bands after their show.
Each night after the gigs, I got to chat with the bands, capturing their music journey so far, their inspirations and experiences. It was an incredible opportunity to practice my interviewing skills and gain firsthand experience in storytelling within the music scene.
Thanks to this opportunity, bands have reached out to me from other towns and events asking if I can interview them after their gigs, giving me VIP tickets to their shows! There is nothing like attending a live music event, building a connection with artists, and the feeling of accomplishing a great interview.
