A sports student from the University of Bedfordshire has spoken about how the hands-on experience provided as part of his degree has led to coaching work with MK Dons Women's First Team and the Great Britain Deaf Football Team.

Luke Wilkinson graduated from the BSc Sport & Physical Education course in 2023 and is now studying for his MSc Strength & Conditioning


I am currently studying on the MSc Strength & Conditioning after previously receiving my BSc Sport & Physical Education.


The facilities, including modern gym, sports hall, and outdoor pitches. Being able to access these resources enhances practical learning and personal fitness.


Upon finishing university, I aspire to build a career as a Strength and Conditioning Coach. Currently, I have the privilege of working with the MK Dons Women's First Team and the Great Britain Deaf Football Team. These roles have given me invaluable experience in developing tailored training programmes and optimising my athletic performance. My goal is to leverage this experience to advance in the field, helping athletes achieve their full potential through innovative and effective conditioning strategies. Also hoping to move on to a PhD in the future.


My experience at the University of Bedfordshire is proving invaluable in preparing me for my chosen career as a Strength and Conditioning Coach. The academic curriculum, combined with practical training sessions, has equipped me with cutting-edge knowledge and techniques in sports science. The support and guidance from faculty and access to state-of-the-art facilities have been instrumental in shaping my professional expertise and confidence.

The rigorous curriculum and hands-on experience have helped my technical skills and deepened my understanding of advanced training methodologies. Engaging with diverse peers and industry professionals has broadened my perspectives and enhanced my collaborative and communication abilities. Additionally, the supportive academic environment has fostered resilience, adaptability, and a commitment to continuous learning, which are essential qualities for my future career in strength and conditioning.
