My name is Yadwinder Singh. After studying for my undergraduate degree in physiotherapy in India, I was keen to pursue a Master’s degree in public health and learn about tackling inequalities. I discovered that the University of Bedfordshire’s MSc Public Health course has a reputation for high-profile researchers who teach on the programme, so I decided to apply for an international course.

I love the MSc Public Health course and I have met lots of other international students, and learned about different parts of the world. The Faculty of Health & Social Sciences is fantastic in providing us with great expertise and offering us internships to gain valuable work experience – for example, some of us have been recently volunteering on an organ donation project which was even featured on the local television news!

I love it! Luton is a cosmopolitan town with people living here from all around the world. I am Sikh and love that the Gurdwara is just a ten minute walk from the University’s Luton campus. The Gurdwara was recently rebuilt and opened by His Majesty King Charles III – one of our course tutors, Professor Gurch Randhawa, even hosted the King during his visit!

When I am not studying, I also volunteer at the Gurdwara’s weekly soup kitchen where we serve hot meals to those in need. I even got to meet the High Sheriff of Bedfordshire, who presented us with a Certificate of Appreciation for our volunteering efforts and I received the certificate on behalf of our volunteers.

There is a lot of studying to do but you have lots of experienced and helpful staff on hand, plus plenty of work experience and internship opportunities to complement your studies.
