Over 10,000 16 and 17-year old students are expected to visit the University of Bedfordshire for the annual UCAS Discovery Event to find out more about career pathways and educational courses on offer to them.

On the 20th and 21st June at the Bedford campus, the highly anticipated event is set to welcome students from across the county and will allow them to meet and chat with representatives from more than 100 universities from all over the country.

Open from 9.30am to 2.30pm each day, the UCAS Discovery Event will feature a variety of activities such as subject presentations from sector specialists on everything from top tips when applying to university, to sessions on course subjects like Aviation and Forensic Science delivered by academics from Bedfordshire.

There will also be a Demonstration Zone to provide hands-on experience for prospective students on a range of fun activities including t-shirt printing and robotic demonstrations.

The event is a useful way for local students to find out more about potential universities they might like to study at, with course options and friendly ambassadors all hosted in one place. As the cost of living crisis forces many students to tighten their budgets, this event allows them to gather all the information they need without even leaving their local area.

David Seaton, Assistant Director for Student Recruitment & Admissions, commented: “I am thrilled that the University has been chosen once again to host the regional UCAS Discovery Event. The event is a fantastic opportunity for students to explore a variety of options available to them after they complete their studies. It provides a unique platform for them to meet with a range of universities and ask questions about courses, campus life, and everything in between.”

Throughout the event, the University of Bedfordshire will also be entertaining students with a music festival marquee featuring performances from student bands and local talent.

Speaking about what is on offer for attendees, David added: “There's also an exciting live music festival, and a series of subject seminars. All in all, the UCAS Discovery Event promises to be an unforgettable experience for all who attend.”

Alongside all of this, guests will be able to immerse themselves in the brand new Student Culture Zone, in partnership with the University’s Arts and Culture Team, aiming to celebrate and showcase our diverse local communities through a series of music workshops and traditional cultural music performed by groups from across the region.

Bedfordshire’s admissions team will also be on site each day to provide general application advice and register anyone who is interested in applying to study at the University via Clearing.

The University of Bedfordshire’s admissions team can also be contacted Monday to Friday on 01582 743500 or by emailing admission@beds.ac.uk. Open Days can also be booked online.
