Radio LaB invites you to ‘Meet Our Family’
Thu 21 January, 2021A brand new series introducing listeners to members of the arts, media and culture staff at the University of Bedfordshire is launching on community radio station, Radio LaB.
Presented by Terry Lee, Senior Tutor in Radio & Audio at the University, the month long series titled ‘Meet Our Family’ will air on Radio LaB at 10am every Friday morning. In each episode, Terry will chat to University staff about their journey into academia, their course and their all-important music taste.
Host, Terry Lee, hopes this series will inspire and enlighten current and prospective students who are interested in pursuing a career in the arts, as well as showcasing the University’s creative opportunities. He said:
I wanted this interview-style series to shine a light on some of the fantastic personalities involved in the University’s Creative Arts subjects. The conversations promise to be enlightening, and will give the listener a lot of insight into how these academics have ended up being the experts in what they do.
Students, prospective students and staff alike will find each episode interesting – it’s a treat to be able to broadcast them on Radio LaB.
With the first episode airing on Friday 22nd January, the series will be introduced with a conversation with Dr Toby Norways, Senior Lecturer in Scriptwriting, who recently won a lockdown competition for his five minute play ‘Ten Items or Less’.
The second guest of the series will be Dr Carlota Larrea, whose episode will air on Friday 29th January. As Head of School of Culture and Communications, Dr Larrea says that everybody Terry contacted was very keen to take part in ‘Meet Our Family’. She said:
RadioLab is such a wonderful resource to present and introduce listeners to Bedfordshire staff, and this series will hopefully provide an approachable gateway to what ‘media’ and ‘creative industries’ are, both as courses at the University and as areas of cultural activity. There has been a lot of talk about how important arts and culture have been throughout the pandemic, so I hope listeners find the discussions on the topic equally entertaining and informative. I truly relished the opportunity to pre-record an episode of ‘Meet Our Family’. I have been privileged to have quite an international education, allowing me to live in different countries, and I enjoyed speaking about this during my interview with Terry. I also talk about my home town of Bilbao – a place I love very much. It was difficult to choose only four songs for the programme and you might be surprised to hear that none of them are Spanish!
Later episodes will feature Rachel Clark, Senior Lecturer in Media Performance, Anthony Greenbank, Senior Lecturer in TV Production and Mary Ferguson, Tutor in Broadcast and Digital Media.
Radio LaB is available to listen on 97.1 FM in Luton and Bedfordshire or via the Radioplayer. All episodes will also be available to play back in the Listen Again archive.
