University announces new HR Director

The University of Bedfordshire has appointed Sue Shutter as its new Director of Human Resources.

As HR Director, Sue will play an integral role at Bedfordshire as part of the Vice Chancellor’s Executive Group, having previously held the position of Pro Vice Chancellor of HR & Governance at Regent’s University London.

Discussing her appointment, Sue said:

I am delighted to be joining the team at such a pivotal time.  We have a challenging and exciting agenda and I am looking forward to supporting the development of a culture of belonging for staff and students, where talented people can flourish and meet their potential.

Joining Bedfordshire in January 2021, Sue has a particular interest in implementing culture change and developing an inclusive culture that promotes belonging and wellbeing, Sue will lead the development of a new comprehensive HR strategy built on the University of Bedfordshire’s commitment to integrity, engagement and EDI (equality, diversity and inclusion).

As a member of the Executive Group, Sue will play a key part in developing the vision and direction of the University under the direction of the Vice Chancellor.

Professor Rebecca Bunting, Vice Chancellor, said:

I am delighted to announce the appointment of Sue Shutter to our University’s senior team and Human Resources department. I believe her priorities and professional interests will prove crucial in the implementation of the University’s new strategic plans, which will help develop and support our growing staff and student community.

Having held a role at Regent’s University London since 2009, Sue oversaw the delivery of its organisational development via culture change plans, a people’s agenda and wellbeing and equality strategies. She also played a significant role in the transformation HR Magazine Awards 2019of the University from a collection of autonomous bodies into a single private institution. During her time at Regent’s, Sue received recognition from HR Magazine as one of one of the UK’s most influential practitioners of 2019 and was shortlisted for ‘HR Director of the Year’.

Prior to Regent’s, Sue held leading HR roles with local government at Oxford City Council and with the NHS at the Chiltern & South Bucks Primary Care Trust.

A fellow of the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD), Sue is regularly invited to speak at events about her work including leadership development, managing change, performance management and HR consulting, mentoring and coaching.
