Clear the way! Students set to ‘Defy Expectations’
Tue 03 August, 2021Ahead of A Level results day on 10th August, the University of Bedfordshire has opened its Clearing Hotline and online portal to help prospective students find their dream course and ‘Defy Expectations’.
After more than a year of disruptions to school work and exams, the University wants to encourage young people to see Clearing as an opportunity to pursue their ambitions and triumph over adversity in the wake of the Covid-19 pandemic.
Prospective students who are perhaps worried about their results, who have decided to apply to university last minute, or who may be thinking of changing their future career path can take advantage of Bedfordshire’s ‘Defy Expectations’ webpage. It is bursting with useful information about the Clearing process, available courses, accommodation, entry requirements and information about the University’s Merit Scholarships – everything to help students make an informed decision about their studies.
A dedicated team of support and admissions staff is also on hand to take calls on 0300 3300 073, help with applications, answer online enquiries and speak to applicants via the live chat function, all between now and the end of September.
David Seaton, Assistant Director of Student Recruitment & Admissions, said: “Clearing is always an exciting time and allows the University of Bedfordshire to offer a life-changing opportunity to many students.
“We expect to receive more than 3,000 Clearing calls over the first few days after A Level results are announced, with a large majority being students who are yet to apply to the University for 2021.Furthermore, our online application form will be available 24/7 through our website.
“We also recognise the impact of Covid 19 on students, and we are committed to supporting every applicant by offering reassurance and guiding them through the process.”
Following the announcement that teacher assessed grades will be given to A Level and BTEC pupils, the University is aware that many may be concerned about their grades. However, Bedfordshire is keen to assess people on their character and work ethic, not just their educational successes.
David added: “I sympathise with those awaiting teacher assessed grades and the uncertainty this may causing many applicants. So if your grades are not what you expected, please do call us and we will happily support and advise you on the opportunities available within the University.”
Whether courses in Art & Design, Business, Performing Arts, Psychology, Media, Midwifery or Life Sciences are of interest, people can view available courses from the comfort of their homes.
Those unsure about which subject they would like to study, or who may be worried about any entry requirements, can speak to the Clearing team over the phone or online. The team will be able to help applicants to identify the perfect course or the best university route – such as a Foundation degree – into their dream career.
Open Days – currently planned for 11th and 14th August, 15th September and 23rd October – and campus tours are also on offer for those interested in seeing the University of Bedfordshire in person. Live chats with academics and course tutors can also be arranged by the Clearing team, which will allow prospective students to ask specific questions about their studies and learning environments.
Students who already have their grades can submit an application now. Meanwhile, those awaiting their A Level results (due 10th August) can apply for ‘Clearing VIP’ status until 5th August for the chance to receive a £25 Amazon voucher and a University of Bedfordshire hoodie.
