Two students from the University of Bedfordshire scooped medals at the British Universities & College Sport (BUCS) National Indoor Championships.

Jessica Hunter was awarded the gold in the 60m Hurdle and Nuno Moreira Dias Rato bagged the bronze in Judo.

Sports Therapy student Jessica said: “Persistence is key, I was happy to take the win at BUCS in a new Personal Best time of 8.23 ranking me second in the overall UK rankings, whilst representing the University after a rollercoaster indoor season.”

Clinical Exercise Physiology student Nuno said: “It was a fun and thrilling day where I won four fights and only lost one. At the end of the day, I was really happy that I could come away with a bronze medal representing the University of Bedfordshire. I am grateful to the Sports Office of the University as they provided me with all the facilities and support to take part in this competition.”

The pair joined thousands of other students from universities and colleges across the country who descended on Sheffield to compete in the two-day events.

Head of Sports Partnerships at the University Stephen Pitt said: “I am pleased that as a University we were able to send such a strong team to the BUCS Championships as this is such a good multi-sport event for our students to be able to shine.  My hope is that the great results by Jessica and Nuno inspire other students to get involved in sport at the University.”
