Thousands of young people from across the region descended on the University of Bedfordshire’s Bedford campus to get help with making one of the biggest decisions of their lives (20 – 21 June).

Over 9,000 young people aged 16 to 17 years old, from over 100 schools and colleges across Bedfordshire, Northamptonshire, Cambridgeshire and Milton Keynes attended the UCAS Higher Education Fair - the largest of its kind locally - to find out information about life at university and attend presentations about courses, entry requirements, finances and student life.

David Seaton, Assistant Director of Student Recruitment and Admissions at Bedfordshire, said: “For a number of years the University of Bedfordshire has hosted the Higher Education Fair, where we have welcomed a few thousand local schoolchildren onto campus for a similar exhibition.

“However now that the University is an official UCAS event holder, it means students will be able to get a greater understanding of what is on offer for them. Whether that may be going to college, or onto University, or even joining the Army, the Fair will provide the perfect opportunity for everyone to get a thorough knowledge about their next step.”

Representatives from over 160 universities and HEIs, as well the army, police force and apprenticeships service were on hand to answer questions from students. The Bedford campus was also setup to give students a taste of university life with a demo zone and a live music festival in the entertainment marquee.
