MBA Project Management students Aliasgar Bootwala, Muhammed Afsal, Daniela Lopes and Ayesha Talat were named Student Group of the Year by the APM Midlands Branch.            

The students received the accolade for planning a project from a mandate provided by logistics company DHL, producing a project brief and project plan – this process gives students experience of working on a real-world project.

Ayesha said: “I feel very grateful to have won this award, an achievement that can showcase how effective team effort and dedication to work hard can get you very far. I would like to thank our lecturers who supported us throughout – we couldn't have done this without them.”

Aliasgar said: “I am thrilled and proud to achieve such a feat and to be recognised from an external institution. I was lucky to have had a great team of fellow students to work with and inspiring tutors.”

Mohammed added: “We are so happy that we won and it is all because of the tutor support which made it happen; I really appreciate that.”

Principal Lecturer in Business Systems Diane Richardson said: “I am delighted that our students have been recognised by the APM. The judging panel were impressed with the breadth of APM Project Management knowledge areas covered by the group assessment completed by the students. The students planned a large project for DHL and developed a broad range of soft and hard skills in project management. The students worked professionally and gave an excellent presentation of their work. I am very proud of them.”

The Association for Project Management promotes the professional disciplines of project management and programme management in the UK.
