University Law Graduate runs Dragon's Den event for local pupils
Wed 24 April, 2019In collaboration with the University of Bedfordshire, Alumni, Usamah Himdy held a local Dragon’s Den style event for local youth at the University’s Business School on Monday 15 April.
The event which was an initiative put forward by Youth Network, welcomed young aspiring entrepreneurs who pitched their ideas to five ‘Dragons’ from local businesses including, Clearhead Media, Active Luton, The Mall and Benedict’s Hair Salon.
Successful participants received a cash investment of fifty pounds towards their individual ideas, while two of the teams were offered a day’s experience at global content agency, Clearhead Media.
Director of Youth Network, Usamah Himdy said: “One of the aims behind this is to get the youth to realise and unleash their potential and what that does is, it gets them motivated and it gives them some sort of direction.”
“I came up with this idea because I’m passionate about investing in Luton’s young people. It’s all about changing society, one step at a time.
I wanted to hold the event at the University of Bedfordshire to provide the young entrepreneurs with exposure to the Higher Education setting. I believe what you can get out of University is not limited to just a degree. I can confidently say I walked out of the University of Bedfordshire with much more.”
The objective behind the event was to support young people in Luton and help increase their employability and business skills. Young people, their friends and families as well as representatives from various organisations and schools attended the event which was coordinated by youth ambassadors.
