Bedfordshire nursing student shares project on resilience with House of Lords
Mon 10 September, 2018A Nursing student from the University of Bedfordshire presented a student-led project aimed at celebrating resilience in the NHS to the House of Lords.
MSc Nursing with Registration student Jessica Anstee, along with teammates Axie Finch and Jess Rees, shared details of The 100 Word Project, where the team have been gathering quotes from staff across the NHS and distributing them across social media over 100 days.
The project aims to challenge the current attitudes and building resentment towards the use of the word and concept of resilience.
“We believe that calling healthcare professionals to be more resilience is an injustice. In fact, for many, resilience is already integral to their practice. The 100 Word Project looks to reclaim and refresh the concept of resilience by sharing experiences and insights to support, inspire and celebrate the resilience already out there,“ said Jessica.

The project has already had responses and engagement from across the NHS, including NHS leaders, chief executives, Public Health England directors and healthcare students.
“We hope to create a community and a platform for discussion on the topic, as well as provide a daily dose of resilience for all those going to work in healthcare each day,” said Jessica.
Jessica met Axie and Jess at The Healthcare Leadership Academy, a programme designed to support and nurture the healthcare leaders of the future.
The Healthcare Leadership Academy Director Johann Malawana said: “This is such an exciting project and so timely, I would urge everyone involved in healthcare to follow @100wordproject - the community they are building is phenomenal.”

To me resilience is just how you can keep going, even if that's just plodding along when it gets tough. Knowing I'll be able to spend time with my family & friends after a hard period… that's what keeps me going.

Co-ordinator for the University’s MSc in Nursing with Registration Aileen Wilson said: “We are so proud of Jess for her involvement in this excellent initiative, which demonstrates perfectly the role of the pre-registration MSc in producing nursing leaders of the future. We look forward to following The 100 Word Project at it progresses.”
