Bedford town centre came to a standstill to the sound of bagpipes as the University of Bedfordshire kicked off its graduation season with the civic ceremony.

The traditional procession of local dignitaries made their way through the town centre to the Corn Exchange to the sound of the University’s Pipe Band.

They were met by excited students from the University’s Faculty of Education & Sport, along with proud families and friends.

The ceremony marked the end of years of hard work and dedication as the students crossed the stage to collect their awards.

Vice Chancellor Bill Rammell congratulated the students, saying: “Today is a celebration. A celebration of your achievements, of the friends and family that helped you get here, of the person you have become and the things you will achieve.

“You are a credit to your lecturers, to the friends and family who have supported you throughout your studies, but most of all you are a credit to yourselves.”
