Second year Fine Art student Natalie Andrews, whose exhibition is called Would You Patent the Sun, is the first Bedfordshire student to host a solo exhibition in the gallery space on Bute Street.

Natalie, from Markyate, said: “I’m really excited to have my work shown outside my studio and in a new environment. I’m also looking forward to seeing people’s reactions.”

Natalie’s tutor, Senior Lecturer in Visual Arts Practice Nigel Grimmer said: “It’s a remarkable achievement for a second year like Natalie to have such a cohesive body of work. She is the first current Bedfordshire student to have a solo show in this space and we wish her the best of luck with her exhibition.”

Natalie’s work challenges the idea that nothing in our world escapes ownership. Space, ideas and paintings are set to work inside a system, and her work asks whether the same can be said of the sun.

The Storefront is part of As You Change, So Do I, a new contemporary visual art project commissioned by Luton Culture. It transforms a previously empty commercial space into an environment where artists can experiment, engage new audiences, share work-in-progress and test ideas.

Natalie’s exhibition is open to the public from 1-6pm on the 19^th, 20^th and 21^st April, closing on Monday 23^rd April. Visitors do not need to book and can just turn up.
