Bedfordshire students shortlisted in Student Radio Awards
Mon 16 October, 2017Three students from the University of Bedfordshire are in the running for accolades at this year’s Student Radio Awards.
Luke Gregory and Chris Theodoros Ioannou have been shortlisted for the Best Male Presenter award, and Sapana Budha is in the running for the Best Journalistic Programming award.
All three have spent time working on the University’s community radio station Radio LaB at the Luton campus.
Final year Media Performance student Chris said: “I’m really happy to be nominated at this year’s awards alongside my good friend Luke. Representing Radio LaB at the awards is going to be a pleasure and I wouldn’t be doing it if it wasn’t for the help of the former student station managers and our tutor Terry Lee.”
Broadcast Journalism graduate Sapana, whose programme about Nepal following the devastating earthquake in 2015 earned her the nomination, said: “I am really happy and glad to be nominated for my documentary. It has really encouraged and boosted my confidence. I have worked really hard and it just proves that hard work does pay off.”
Luke, a Media Production graduate said: “I am really happy to be nominated again for these awards. Since graduating from university I’ve been working hard on my presenting style and feel like I have improved a lot since last year.”
Radio LaB Coordinator Terry Lee said: “We are extremely proud about this news. Three nominations in the Student Radio Awards is a new record for us and is a fitting testament to the hard work of the students in the past year. For students like Chris, Luke and Sapana, Radio LaB is a platform which they have used effectively as a springboard to boost their broadcasting careers. Their work also sets a fantastic example for this year’s radio students.”
The trio will find out if they have won their awards at a glittering awards ceremony at the O2 Arena in London on Thursday 9 November.
