Bedfordshire awarded degree apprenticeship funding from HEFCE
Wed 11 October, 2017The University of Bedfordshire has secured funding from the Higher Education Funding Council for England (HEFCE) to develop four new degree apprenticeships in STEM subjects.
The funding from the second phase of the Degree Apprenticeship Development Fund will enable the University to develop and deliver degree apprenticeships in the following areas from September 2018:
- Cyber Security
- Food Science and Technology
- Enterprise Computing
- Construction Quantity Surveying
The development of these degree apprenticeships is in response to industry needs and specific skills gaps in the local area, and will form part of the University’s STEM development strategy which will be based in the Faculty of Creative Arts, Technologies & Science.
The news comes as the University recently broke ground on its new STEM building at the Luton campus, which is due for completion in 2019, and will allow the University to offer a range of courses in the areas of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics.
The University’s Vice Chancellor Bill Rammell said: “We are delighted to be part of the second phase of funding which will allow us to provide these exciting new degree apprenticeships and further develop our apprenticeship portfolio. This further supports our wider vision for high level skills growth in the region, extending opportunity for local residents and attracting investment to the region.”
The project is in addition to the University’s existing commitment to deliver five higher and degree apprenticeships from September 2017 in Chartered Manager, Digital and Technology Solutions Professional, Data Analyst, Project Management Associate, Healthcare Assistant Practitioner.
Employers interested in taking on new staff or training existing colleagues in these areas are invited to contact apprenticeships@beds.ac.uk or 0800 328 5334.
