Student scriptwriter sees his work on stage in London
Tue 07 November, 2017A Media Production student from the University of Bedfordshire has seen his script performed on stage for the first time at a theatre in London.
Ted Ryan’s script for the play Reunion, was one of 12 plays to be performed by the Director’s Cut Theatre Company at the Southwark Playhouse in London.
Reunion follows Jamie, a young man who has moved to a new town for a new start. The play focusses on what happens when his new girlfriend throws him as surprise birthday party, and the faces of his past and present come together in one room.
On seeing his work performed on stage for the first time, Ted, 22, said: “It was strange at first, seeing the play on stage. I’m usually someone who writes and directs, so this was a first for me in the sense I had no other creative input aside from writing the script. However, the cast and directors did a terrific job and the collaboration with the other scripts after mine really built a strong narrative.”
Ted has accredited his time at Bedfordshire for helping him develop his skills as a scriptwriter.
“My time at Bedfordshire has helped in many ways in regards to my writing. Writing for screen and stage are two vastly different styles, but in regards to building my confidence and the high level of teaching, I can safely say that Bedfordshire has helped me grow and mature as a writer,” said Ted, from Hemel Hempstead.
Ted’s tutor, Senior Lecturer in Media Arts David Green, said: “Ted is an excellent student who has taken advantage of everything the course can offer. He has also moved beyond the University and made good contacts with industry which has allowed him to develop as a filmmaker and writer.”
