MillionPlus Chief Executive awarded Honorary Degree from Bedfordshire

The outgoing Chief Executive for Higher Education think tank MillionPlus joined graduates from the University of Bedfordshire to receive an Honorary Degree.

Pam Tatlow, who has been the Chief Executive for MillionPlus since 2007 and plans to step down later this year, took to the stage to receive an Honorary Degree in Education for her outstanding services to Higher Education.

“I feel exceptionally privileged to be honoured in this way today. When I do step down as Chief Executive of MillionPlus, somehow I don’t think I’m going to stay quiet about my passion for education and its links to the wider world,” Pam told the graduates on receiving her award.

“Whatever the opportunities and challenges ahead, I know that as graduates of this University, you will be pioneers of the future, and that you will take with you, not only the spirit of innovation, but also a passion for education and social justice which is an integral part of this University’s DNA.”

Pam joined graduates from the University’s Business School, who were cheered on by delighted friends and family as they collected their awards from Vice Chancellor Bill Rammell.

Mr Rammell told the graduates: “As you go out into the world as graduates, you will always carry the University with you not just as a line on your CV, but in the friends you have made, the knowledge and skills you have gained and the experiences you have had.”

Pam was the first person in her family to go to university, and after graduating with first-class honours in Education, she qualified as a teacher and was head of department in comprehensive schools before going on to work in adult education.

Pam continued her education and went on to study for a Master’s degree in European Management and Employment Law. This steered her into working in a number of senior official roles for various trade unions and professional organisations before being appointed as Chief Executive of the Coalition of Modern Universities in 2004, and then as Chief Executive of MillionPlus in 2007.
