Bedfordshire’s Enactus awarded thousands by Ford
Wed 16 August, 2017The University of Bedfordshire’s Enactus team has been awarded thousands of pounds to develop a project to help migrant workers learn English.
The team won $7,000 from motor industry giant Ford’s C3 Building Sustainable Communities Project Partnership, to help develop their Rewriting Fate, an English teaching project.
Out of the 56 UK universities who applied to receive funding, Bedfordshire was among only three to be chosen by Ford. The Bedfordshire team presented impact reports demonstrating what the Rewriting Fate project has achieved so far in helping migrant workers learn English and employability skills in Luton.
The students involved in the project were:
- Ramla Jamac (Biomedical Science)
- Georgia Erminidou (Media Production)
- Ibrahim Eid (International Business)
- Teresa Valente (Psychology)
The University’s Employability Adviser Paul Harrison, who advised the Enactus team, said: “I am so proud of the team for all they have achieved this year. The fact that they made it into the final three out of over 50 other teams is testament to the hard work and dedication of the students.”
Enactus is an international non-profit organisation dedicated to inspiring students to improve the world through entrepreneurial action.
Through the Ford C3 Building Sustainable Communities Project Partnership, Enactus challenges teams in Brazil, Germany, Ghana, Kenya, Morocco, South Africa and the UK to use entrepreneurial action to find ways to address an urgent, unmet social need or problem in their local community, empowering the community to become a more sustainable place to work and live.
