Bedfordshire students shortlisted for national radio awards
Tue 29 August, 2017Two students from the University of Bedfordshire have been shortlisted for accolades at this years’ Community Radio Awards.
Broadcast Journalism graduate Sapana Budha is in the running for the Speech and Journalism Radio of the Year category, while Psychology student Gary Tottingham is up for the Volunteer of the Year prize.
Both students were shortlisted for their work on the Radio LaB, the University’s community radio station; Sapana produced a programme about Nepal following the devastating earthquake in 2015, and Gary has a regular slot raising awareness around mental health.
Sapana said: “I am really happy to be nominated. I have worked really hard on this documentary and being recognised for my work has really boosted my confidence.”
Gary said: “I am absolutely delighted to be shortlisted for an award by doing something I love. Radio LaB has been an integral part of my university experience so far. I am humbled by how the students, managers and listeners have supported the programs that I have been involved in.”
Radio LaB Coordinator Terry Lee said: “As a community radio station, Radio LaB broadcasts to a wider audience beyond students of the University. It is fantastic that the Community Radio Awards have shortlisted us twice, rewarding us for the work we have been doing this last year. Gary and Sapana are truly deserving of this recognition.”
The Community Radio Awards celebrate and promote the work that volunteers, presenters and stations do in their community across the country. The pair will find out if they have won their awards at a ceremony at the Community Media Association’s annual conference in Bristol on 23 September.
