Bedfordshire welcomes new research students
Fri 28 October, 2016The University of Bedfordshire welcomed a new cohort of postgraduate research students from the Research Graduate School (RGS).
The RGS, which works closely with the University’s research institutes and other teams across the University, organised an induction programme which marks the beginning of the new students’ research journeys.
New arrivals, together with Bedfordshire graduates returning to begin further studies, spent their first week meeting fellow students and teaching staff, finding their way around the University and exploring facilities, including the stunning new library.
They will now begin their studies with one of the University’s ten research institutes on Master of Arts or Science by Research, Master of Philosophy (MPhil), Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) and Professional Doctorate programmes.
Catrin Jones, a PhD student funded under a joint initiative between the University's Institute of Health Research and the NHS Blood and Transplant Authority, said: “The first week has been great, a really great opportunity to mix with other research students and the RGS team. Although it can be daunting to think about the next three years of PhD study, I can’t wait to get started on my research at the University.”
Director of Research Development Professor Patrick Carmichael said: “Our induction programme always highlights the wide range of research that goes on within the University. Many of our postgraduates are engaged from day one in research that is cutting-edge and adventurous, and has potentially huge social impact.”
The RGS works closely with the University’s research Institutes to ensure that all students have appropriate support throughout their studies and access to training and development programmes that will complement their research and provide a foundation for their future careers.
