To honour her commitment to the field of English for Academic Purposes (EAP), the publishers took the decision to name an award after her.

The Liz Hamp-Lyons award will given to the article in the main section of JEAP or  in a new section of the journal focused on ‘EAP research into practice’, judged to have the have the greatest potential to positively influence EAP curricula, materials, or assessment at the classroom and programme level, in the preceding year’s issues.

After hearing about the award in her name, Prof Hamp-Lyons said: “I am honoured to have my colleagues propose this award in my name and very grateful that the publisher has agreed to fund it.  I hope this new award will encourage EAP practitioners to take the extra step to make their research into their own practice accessible to their peers around the world.”

Prof Hamp-Lyons will serve as the Chair of the Committee for the first three years of the award. A short list will be identified via nominations from the JEAP Editorial Board, as well as from the Exective Committee of BALEAP, the international organisation for EAP professionals.
