Dancing their way to success
Thu 03 March, 2016University of Bedfordshire Dance Society returned in triumph from the recent inter university dance competition (20-21 February).
The troop of dancers, who competed against ten other universities including Nottingham Trent, Essex and Leeds Beckett, took first place in the contemporary and tap categories as well as winning the award for best costumes.
Sadie Hunt, Senior Lecturer in Dance said: “This is a great example of our students being entrepreneurial, putting in hard work and getting themselves out there.”
In all over 30 Bedfordshire students from across all years and courses took part in the competition.
Katie Boag, Chair of the Dance Society said: “I am so proud of all our competition teams, everyone has worked so hard, I can't believe we have done so well and that we have finally put our University of Bedfordshire on the map.”
Societies are an integral part of student life at Bedfordshire. From the Live Music Society to Video and Computing Gaming, to the Law Association, and the African-Caribbean Society; societies are great way for students to meet new people away from their course and try out new interests.
Dance is increasing in popularity at the University. At undergraduate level, it is taught primarily through the BA (Hons) Dance and Professional Practice, while at postgraduate level, the University offers a suite of Masters courses, MA Dance Performance and Choreography, MA Community Dance Leadership and MSc Dance Science.
Dance students are able to take advantage of excellent on-campus facilities for dance training, dance making and performance including a professionally-equipped 280-seat theatre, a theatre studio and a suite of dance studios.
