First-year computing student named top of the class by BCS
Wed 27 July, 2016A computing student from the University of Bedfordshire has been rewarded for his hard work with the BCS (The Chartered Institute of IT) Bedford Branch Student Prize.
Robert Raymond from Bedford has just completed his first year of studying Computer Science and achieved top marks across the board, as well as 100% attendance.
It was because of his hard work and dedication to his studies that the BCS (The Chartered Institute of IT) chose to award him its student prize, given every year to a high performing first year computing student.
“I was quite surprised to get this award. I knew I had done quite well but I didn’t release how well,” said Robert, 22.
“I’m hoping next year will challenge my skills more and hopefully I will continue to succeed.”
Robert’s prize includes automatic membership to the BCS and a cheque for £150.
“The award will look really good on my CV. When I finish studying I’m hoping to get an internship with a programming company so I can get some hands-on experience – the award will definitely help with that,” said Robert.
Sue Brandreth, Visiting Lecturer at the University and from the Bedford BCS, commended Robert for his achievement.
“Robert has worked really hard this year and his work and attendance have been outstanding. He has achieved 80 per cent or over in all his assessments, the highest marks you can get, which is a fantastic achievement.
“His performance has been head and shoulders above the rest and he is certainly deserving of this award. Hopefully this will spur him on to keep up the good work in the coming years of his course.”
