UCMK helps to celebrate the Rugby World Cup
Thu 24 September, 2015University Campus Milton Keynes (UCMK) is proud to announce it is a sponsor of the Festival of Rugby and part of the celebrations around Milton Keynes being a host city for Rugby World Cup 2015.
As part of the sponsorship, UCMK, part of the University of Bedfordshire, has secured two Events Internships with The Parks Trust, organisers of the Festival of Rugby.
The two interns will have the opportunity to work with the events team at the Parks Trust supporting major events in its outdoor parks and green spaces including projects such as National Play Day and World Picnic Day.
Dr Gordon Mellor, Campus Director UCMK said: “It is great to be able support Milton Keynes as it celebrates hosting Rugby World Cup 2015. However, as always our focus is our students and to be able to offer two of our students such a brilliant opportunity is wonderful.”
The University has put employability at the heart of its offer to students. “Many of our undergraduate courses now include a 12-week placement which involves working full time with a local business in Milton Keynes,” said Dr Mellor.
“We are also working continuously with local employers to ensure our courses are relevant for the industry; making sure our graduates are ready for work when they graduate.”
UCMK also recently announced a £1,000 Student Bursary for new first year UK or EU students who are entering full time undergraduate degree programmes in September 2015.
The Festival of Rugby is taking place in Campbell Park, Milton Keynes, Thursday 1 Oct to Sunday 11 Oct. There is a programme of events including the 80s Lineout festival, the Big Sports Quiz and the Art of Rugby Film Festival. A highlight will be Will Young performing on 9 October.
During the World Cup, a family friendly fanzone will be open in Campbell Park where visitors and fans will be able to watch the matches on big screens inside an undercover Marquee arena accommodating up to 5000 visitors and fans.
Cllr Hannah O’Neill, Deputy Leader of Milton Keynes Council, said: “We are delighted that UCMK are on board and getting behind the Festival of Rugby in Milton Keynes and to showcase what they can offer people looking at further education.
“The festival of Rugby offers many opportunities for residents and visitors to the city to get involved and really feel part of an event on the world stage.”
