Blazing the digital trail
Wed 09 September, 2015A University of Bedfordshire lecturer has been shortlisted for an award in the Young Leaders Awards’ ‘Digital Trailblazer’ category sponsored by University Business.
Bethan Michael, a lecturer in BA (Hons) Education Studies, is a ‘tech-wizard using and championing the latest innovations to improve university performance’.
She was nominated by her fellow staff in the Faculty for Education and Sport for her desire to stay at the cutting edge of technology and the way this filters into her teaching.
“I think it is important for students to feel like they can learn to use new tools and try different things with technology because the speed of change means that what they use in class with me probably won’t be what they will use in ten years in a professional setting.
“But if they feel confident learning and exploring new digital technologies they will stay at the cutting edge”.
Upon hearing the news of her nomination, Bethan said “I am delighted to have been nominated for such an exciting award.
“I am particularly looking forward to meeting the other nominees across the categories and to the opportunity this will offer me to learn from other young leaders in the sector.”
The final winners will be announced on 4 November 2015, at the inaugural Young Leaders Awards Ceremony and Dinner at the Park Lane Hotel, Piccadilly, London.
