Dance student scouted in Italy
Mon 12 October, 2015A University of Bedfordshire dance student performed on live television in Italy over the summer.
Donatella Greco, who studies Dance and Professional Practice at the University, was spotted by two scouts whilst on a family holiday in Italy.
Dona was invited to take part in a competition called Ragazza Cinema Ok, which included a Bollywood-style dance piece. Dona finished in the top three for her region, which saw her progress to the final live on television.
Held in Caserta in southern Italy, the final saw Dona dance in front of a live studio and television audience. So impressive was her performance that Dona claimed the Premio Speciale della Stampa (literally, Special Prize of the Press) trophy.
Upon her return to the UK, Dona received a phone call from the organiser of the competition, Massimo Civale, who invited her back to once again perform on live television in December.
“This has been a great experience and an amazing feeling,” she said. “My confidence grew when I became a student at Bedfordshire and was guided by amazing teachers.
“I became more confident in my work and learnt so much during my first year here. The course has helped me in this situation because I was able to take instructions from choreographers and was confident working in a professional environment.”
Sadie Hunt, Senior Lecturer in Dance, said: “Donatella is a naturally able dancer and performer who also has an excellent work ethic. She is a brilliant student.
“All of these aspects combine to ensure she has developed her skills through her first year of studying dance at the University of Bedfordshire to get to this high standard. We are incredibly proud of Donatella and her achievements.”
