A cyberstalking expert at the University of Bedfordshire is to join the UK’s leading digital stalking and abuse specialists when she speaks at the Oxford Union, on behalf of the Digital Trust.

Dr Emma Short, Co-Founder of the National Centre for Cyberstalking Research – based at the University of Bedfordshire, will be among those speaking at the prestigious occasion which is aimed to inform, and empower, students about the technological aspects of stalking, harassment and improving their own digital safety.

Held on Monday 13 October, ‘Who is watching you?’ will highlight issues around the commonality of stalking and the new issues surrounded with the digital aspect of stalking as the experts speak about the topic drawing on their years’ of experience and many case studies.

Dr Emma Short, who also lectures Psychology at Bedfordshire, is a leading researcher on online harassment.

In 2011 she identified that the impact of cyberstalking was equivalent to that of offline stalking with many victims experiencing significant levels of Post-traumatic Stress Disorder.

At the event she will detail the destruction ‘stalkers cause’ and why they are so dangerous.

Harry Fletcher a founder of the new not-for-profit, Digital-Trust, said: “The students attending the event are living digital lives. We hope to help them identify and minimise their risks.”
