University hosts world-renowned law firm
Thu 30 October, 2014Students from the University of Bedfordshire were given an interactive workshop by law giant Clifford Chance last week.
Seventy five students took part as Clifford Chance, International Law Firm of the Year, explained how to win a visit to the firm’s Docklands headquarters and paid work with the company.
Bedfordshire students studying Law, Criminology, Health & Social Care, Child and Adolescent Studies and Business attended the workshop. Last year, almost half of Clifford Chance’s trainee recruits came from a non-law background.
The Careers and Employability Service and the Law School took advantage of the MyKindaCrowd initiative, which devises challenges and workshops to connect students with major companies. The event took place in the University’s state-of-the-art Moot Court on Tuesday 21 October.
The Head of Graduate Recruitment at Clifford Chance, Laura Yeates, teamed up with James Merry from MyKindaCrowd to outline their Intelligent Aid Scheme, which can lead to a sponsored training contract to enter the legal profession.
To enter the challenge, which offers a place on Clifford Chance’s vacation scheme, students must submit a 500-word answer to a question. The scheme is open to all students interested in a career in law.
Five Bedfordshire undergraduates also attended MyKindaCrowd’s Student Leaders Challenge Day in London.
Clifford Chance, npower and Nestle sponsored the event, which gave students networking opportunities with major companies.
Third-year Law student Luke Bayter won a visit to Nestle at the event, as well as the opportunity to earn an internship.
