Bedfordshire graduate’s documentary features at London Film Festival
Fri 24 October, 2014A University of Bedfordshire graduate had her documentary screened at the BFI London Film Festival on Thursday, October 16.
Ruth Grimberg, who holds a Master of Arts in Documentary Making from Bedfordshire, directed ‘Across Still Water’, which featured at last week’s Southbank event.
The 12-minute documentary, funded by Film London’s London Calling production scheme, follows the trials and tribulations of 32-year-old John Chapman from Kentish Town, who has been diagnosed with incurable Retinitis Pigmentosa and is gradually losing his sight.
“The London Calling production scheme has been a brilliant opportunity to develop the skills I first gained on my MA at the University of Bedfordshire,” said Ruth.
“I was able to secure a place on this scheme due to the encouragement and help of former tutors, now colleagues in the Media Production Department.
“It was wonderful to have such strong support from the University during the making of the film, especially from Professor Karen Randell, who came to the premiere at the London Film Festival.”
Ruth, Visiting Lecturer in Documentary Practices at Bedfordshire, is an emerging filmmaker, having already had a previous piece, ‘One Million Squares’, broadcast on the Community Channel in 2013.
