Students from across the University of Bedfordshire’s partner colleges were among the happy graduates picking up their degrees at a ceremony in Milton Keynes which also celebrated the achievements of a local entrepreneur.

Dr Ann Limb OBE was recognised for her outstanding contribution to the life and community of the South East Midlands as part of the graduation ceremony held at Christ the Cornerstone Church on Friday.

The joyous event marked just over a year since UCMK (University Campus Milton Keynes) opened its doors to students for the first time and welcomed delighted graduating students from the 12 partner institutions as well as those from the University’s faculties of Education and Sport; Health and Social Sciences; and Creative Arts, Technologies and Science.

The University has established strong links in Milton Keynes – including being at the centre of the leading-edge MK:SMART project – since it launched the campus in collaboration with Milton Keynes Council in 2013.

Bill Rammell, Vice Chancellor of the University, congratulated the students who enjoyed a day of glorious November sunshine.

“I can only admire and applaud the fortitude and commitment you have shown; I warmly congratulate each one of you,” he said.

Dr Limb, Chair of South East Midlands Local Enterprise Partnership (SEMLEP) – one of the largest economic development partnerships, who was given an Honorary Doctor of Business Administration, said she was “proud” and “privileged” to become associated with the University as one of those to receive an honorary award down the years.

In her speech, where she thanked the University, her words of advice for the graduates was to “do what you believe is right”.

“If you follow your instincts you will be the best you can possibly be and that is what I wish for you for the future,” said Dr Limb, a well-known champion of Milton Keynes, who works with businesses and charities in the area to encourage economic growth and prosperity.

“It is really important that we publicly recognise your achievements; we share the results of your hard work with you; and we celebrate your successes so we can send you off confidently into the future with our acknowledgement, our advocacy and our admiration.”
