Book for practitioners conducting research with organisations, families and communities
Mon 24 November, 2014Practitioners conducting research with organisations, families and communities can call on a new book by University of Bedfordshire staff and doctoral alumni.
Systemic Inquiry. Innovations in Reflexive Practice Research is a research guide for those studying at Masters and Doctorate level and who are already working in the fields of relational practice such as therapy, organisational consultancy, professional education, community development and leadership.
Co-edited by Dr Gail Simon, Principal Lecturer in Systemic Practice, and Alex Chard, a Visiting Lecturer to the Professional Doctorate in Systemic Practice, the book is aimed at practitioners looking for inspiring and innovative ways of doing research which arise out of the creativity and sensitivity of everyday working.
“The book is unique in that it encourages doing research from a systemic perspective. The book explores ways of understanding work systems and social systems using the same reflexive practices which underpin systemic practice with people at home, in the workplace or in their communities”, explained Dr Simon, from the University’s Institute of Applied Social Research.
“The chapters have been written by international experts in the field and by some newer up and coming experts from our own programme. Several members of the Professional Doctorate in Systemic Practice cohort of 2006 – all of whom were very experienced professionals– have contributed to the book with their interesting and innovative research methods.
“Reflexivity runs through all the chapters in this collection connecting theoretical, ethical and technical challenges while forging connections between relationally sensitive practice, reflexive inquiry and the field of qualitative inquiry.”
The alumni who contributed to the book were Jacob Storch, Lisen Kebbe, Ann-Margreth Olsson and Andreas Juhl.
