Will Affleck, a law student, and Khrys Speed, Sports Exercise and Personal Training undergraduate, will be lining up for Zoo Sport Ronin as they aim to go one better than their final place last year and lift the elite trophy on Sunday.

Will, 21, who captains Ronin and also plays for Bedford Athletic, said: “The tournament is one of the biggest in the sport and last year we lost the final to Scotland in front of 23,000 people watching, so we’re determined to go that next step. However it won’t be easy, there’s 64 teams taking part from across the world and there will be many international standard players involved too.

“We’re really looking forward to it and it will be a great experience again.”

Alongside the fly-half, shall be Will’s good friend Khrys who plays front row for Ronin.

Khrys also plays for Bedford Athletic, and Will said the duo had been friends for years.

“It was weird how it all worked out. Years ago, despite living in different parts of the country, we used to play against each other, and we’ve always known each other.

“Then somehow we both ended up at the University, and our careers have followed similar paths. Speedy has also represented the USA under 20s in the 15s game, so he is doing really well. Together, playing for Ronin, we have travelled all over the world and played in amazing places like Dubai and Las Vegas, as well as Amsterdam,” added third-year student, Will who has been allowed to postpone some of his exams to fulfil his sporting career.
