Record numbers of University of Bedfordshire students have successfully found work soon after graduating, according to the results of an annual independent national survey.

The Destination of Leavers of Higher Education (DLHE) survey found that 92% of Bedfordshire students who graduated last year have found jobs or are in further study – the highest figure achieved by the University.

The number of Bedfordshire students who left the University last year and are now in graduate level employment – professional and managerial roles – also increased, by over 8% to 73.5%.

Speaking just before ceremonies that will witness more than 3,500 University of Bedfordshire students graduate, Bill Rammell, Vice Chancellor, said that the University was proud of its students:

“We believe in nurturing educated, employable and entrepreneurial global citizens. We are proud of our student body – they are creative self-starters with the desire to make a real difference.

“Our campuses are home to diverse learning communities, reflecting and inspiring the ambitions and global outlook of our students. We provide a learning environment in which students of all backgrounds can flourish.”

Cathy Hyde, Head of Careers and Recruitment at the University, explained that the employability of graduates is the institution’s highest concern: “We take the employment outcomes of our graduates seriously – it is a key part of the student experience”, she said.

“We’re embedding employability into the curriculum, as well as providing many extra-curricular activities that will develop our students into the future talent that businesses want.

"We have great relationships with local and national employers and our award-winning Careers and Recruitment team provides expert advice, guidance and support.”

The Destination of Leavers of Higher Education survey is carried out annually by the Higher Education Statistics Agency. The survey collects information on what leavers from higher education programmes are doing, approximately six months after graduation.
