Beavers and Cubs taste University of Bedfordshire life
Wed 16 April, 2014PIRATES, skeletons and a bull welcomed local Beaver and Cub groups to the University of Bedfordshire as they were given a taste of student life.
Some 70 local youngsters and their leaders visited the Luton campus where they were greeted by third year Media Performance students - who had dressed up for the occasion - as well as Beds SU mascot Bruno the Bull.
The day was organised as part of the University of Bedfordshire's Access Partnership team’s ‘Sowing the Seeds’ programme, which aims to give primary school-aged children a taste of university life.
The event also formed part of the Media Performance students’ final year assessment, as they were tasked with conducting workshops on friendship and teamwork, together with delivering a drama production for the children.
“It was really exciting to be part of this project,” said Luke Middleton, Graduate Access Fellow for Bedfordshire’s Creative Arts, Technologies and Science Faculty.
“It was great to see the final year Media Performance students get involved and help Access Partnership in running this event.”
The Beavers and Cubs ended the day by attending a mock graduation ceremony in the University’s Postgraduate and Continuing Professional Development Centre.
Jake, aged 7, said: “I learnt that university is fun and you can choose many things to do. The day could not have been better; it was awesome.”
