Research Designs - Is There a Problem? Can Social Work Help?
This session focuses on measurement issues and looking at "outcomes", Building on issues around validity and reliability from the previous session. Outcomes will be discussed as contested but important concepts.
You should have an understanding of:
- what routine information gathered by agencies is and it's strengths and limitations for research purposes;
- what existing large-scale data sets are along with an overview of how they can be used in and to support research;
- the contribution that questionnaires can make and understanding of some basic issues in their design;
- how repeat measure data collection can improve our understanding of issues over time.
