Students studying tourism, hospitality and aviation have the opportunity to partake in trips, providing them with practical and industry knowledge, as well as the opportunity to network within the industry.
World Travel Market
Previously students have attended the World Travel Market in London, a leading, global event for the travel industry. The event is attended by more than 50,000 senior travel industry professionals and government ministers, giving students the opportunity to network with the travel industry and prospective employers.
French Aviation Trip
Students have visited outstanding aviation facilities in Toulouse for a guided Airbus A380 tour and a visit to the Aeroscopia museum.
Local Airport Discovery Days
Stansted and Luton airports where students had the opportunity to meet airport staff who explained the “behind the scenes” roles to manage passenger check-in, aircraft boarding procedures, safety and security issues and what the airports are doing to make their operations more sustainable. At Stansted Airports students were given the history of the airport by the Aerozone team. The Head of HR department provided an insight of the various job roles at the airport.
Amsterdam: Visitor Attraction Central
Students have adventured to Amsterdam where they visited some major tourist attractions including the Ajax Stadium, Anne Frank’s House and the Heineken Experience. This has also given them the opportunity to explore ‘dark tourism’.
An Insight - Disneyland Paris’ Business Strategy and Marketing Masterclass
Students have travelled to Disneyland Paris as part of their studies. The trip to Disneyland Paris was valuable for students as it allowed them to make connections between the theoretical learning within the classroom and the real world of industry. Disney’s Senior Marketing Team also gave students the opportunity to gain a critical insight into Disney’s marketing mix and strategy, Disney’s management of its online presence, and its approach to media research.
Yorkshire Heritage Trip
Students attend a field-trip to Yorkshire to explore its versatile destination image and wealth of heritage. During this fieldtrip, students discovered how the sporting event ‘Tour de Yorkshire’ fed into the development of Yorkshire’s tourism strategy from the perspective of the local council, assessed the use of Yorkshire as a filming destination, and explored Yorkshire’s local heritage through visits to Harrogate, Otley and Whitby.
Olympic Park Urban Regeneration and Tourism Sport Visit
As part of combining the theoretical and practical, students were able to enhance and expand on their studies, experiencing first-hand the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park Development seeing how sports stadiums are used as products in the tourism industry.
